POSITION SUMMARY:

Senior Manager of Technology will be responsible for the continuous enhancement of WPP profitability through: selection and approval of new or alternative raw materials, development of new products and structures, development and deployment of new processing technologies. Ensuring WPP interest is protected in legal and Intellectual Property issues, i.e., Freedom to Practice, filing of Patent applications and customer supplier confidentiality.  Be a primary contact in selection and qualification of external /tolling manufacturing arrangements. Ensure Global product stewardship requirements for WPP products are met.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide raw materials, process, IP and product stewardship related advice to WPP management.
Review and provide guidance in setting up confidentiality agreements with customers, suppliers, consultants and third party entities.
Be one of the primary contacts to initiate, approve and manage third party tolling production if and when needed.
Conceptualize and manage new product or structure development to satisfy the business opportunities identified by Sales and Marketing.
Develop innovative technologies related to new products, raw materials and processes to achieve higher profitability and grow new business opportunities for WPP.
Review and make assessments on new joint venture and licensing opportunities that have synergy with WPP business.
Assist Sales and Marketing in securing new business with existing WPP products.
Assist Sales and Marketing in consolidating WPP positions with existing customer by offering them new technologies.
Manage the technical service for lidding products produced by WP Heat seal and used on WPP containers.
Be an integral part of the team to select, specify, purchase and commissioning of new extrusion and thermoforming line.
Manage joint technical development efforts between WPP and Heat Seal and Film Divisions.
Manage new process development needed for new raw materials and new products developed by the Material Development staff.
Manage global Product Stewardship activities, i.e., customer requests for compliance and regulatory documentation, product registration with Government agencies when required compliance testing for different countries.
Assist Purchasing in qualification of new raw material and vendors.
Analyze and document the results for competitive products.
Stay abreast of the new products and technologies for single serve thermoformed packages.
Lead cross functional teams for special projects.
Provide professional guidance to direct reports.
Conduct administrative duties for the direct reports, i.e., personal development, appraisals, expense reports, etc.
Responsible for reporting food packaging safety problems to plant management.
In the incumbents absence these responsibilities will be transferred to the Director of Engineering.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good understanding of polymer chemistry, physics and processability.
High level of understanding of analytical techniques for polymers and manufactured parts.
Understanding of processing equipment requirements and process conditions for plastic materials.
Thorough knowledge of multi-layer sheet extrusion and thermoforming operations.
Ability to correlate material characteristics with processing equipment capabilities.
Ability to work with cross-functional organizations.
Established relationships with people in different segments of Polymer manufacturing, supplier, testing and plastic manufacturing industries.
Have good working knowledge of legal aspect of the position, i.e., NDAs, Freedom to Practice, FDA and other regulatory compliance, product performance liability, etc.
Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation programs, chemical control and food safety plans and policies.
Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a minimum of 20 years of experience of Management in Product and Application Development roles for polymeric products.

EDUCATION:

Minimum Master’s of Science in Polymer Science and or Engineering
